Revision and Research Apps

Need help with revision?   Having trouble organising your research materials?

The Student Innovators have complied apps to help with revision and researching. All the apps are FREE and have tried and tested by students. You can read their reviews below to find out more. If you have any apps you use please let us know, they may even feature on our blog!
Revision Apps

BBC Bitesize

I really recommend the BBC Bitesize app for GCSE students and the Website for A Level students though both are useful to any student. You have the ability to create a personal profile to record your progress and any weak topics within the app to help you improve your studies. You also are able to choose the exam board for each of your subjects. There are many short activities to choose from such as quizzes which are useful for short-time revision such as a bus journey to college to maximise your time.

Gojimo:

Gojimo covers a wide range of subjects from GCSE to A Level. It also has test to help with your Driving Theory. You can track your progress on go and have access to quizzes which relate to the exam board you are working with.

"I really like this app, its main purpose is revision. It has many subjects and levels to choose from as well as specific exam boards so that you're not revising the stuff that you don't need to!" - Connie, Student Innovator 14/15

Evernote Peek:

Create and use already made flashcards and use your device to test you. A quick revision resource on the go. It also links in with your Evernote account.

"Once you have exported your own notes and turned them into questions and answers its relatively simple to test yourself. The filling system is relatively similar to that of the original Evernote with separate Notebooks for each subject or subject area." - Connie, Student Innovator 14/15

Study Blue

Access thousands of already made flashcards and test yourself on the go! Study Blue covers a variety of subjects and topics.

"It includes lots of different subjects, from science to languages. You just simply type in a subject, for example physics, and it will show you lots of useful topics like net force and Newton's second law." - Louis, Student Innovator 14/15

GoConqr (formerly Examtime)

Make your own mindmaps, flashcards, quizzes and notes using GoConqr or access thousands more by searching for already made ones. You can share what you have made and test your friends!

"Overall the app works well, it offers a good way to revise on the go, and best of all, it looks nice. It may be missing some features, but it’s a step in the right direction." - Mustafa, Student Innovator 14/15

My Study Life

Use this app to organise your time and when your exams occur - helping you prepare and give you enough time to revise! You can also set up handy notifications to remind you of any upcoming tasks.

"I have set up my timetable and put all the homework that is due on it. I have also put on my holidays so i don't get notifications for this period. I recommend this app for anyone who is in education to keep themselves on track." - Vicky, Student Innovator 15/16

"Overall my study life is a great app that makes your student life just that much more organised. I would highly recommend it to any student who’s looking for a modern PDA like experience, or to those who just seem to forget about a homework assignment given the previous week." - Mustafa, Student Innovator 14/15

Researching Apps

Flipboard

Flipboard gives you up-to-date news and current affairs information. You can follow a variety of subjects from technology to science.

"Flipboard is a great app, worthy of you attention if you’re one of those people that likes to know what’s going on, no matter what it is, and uses this knowledge to aid you in your everyday life. I’m one of those types of people, therefore this app appeals to me" - Mustafa, Student Innovator 14/15

Pocket

Pocket saves all your favourite websites in one place, you can also access them offline. Great for researching and keeping track of useful sources!

"Pocket is a good productivity app that allows you to save webpages, similar to bookmarking, however these are webpages that you can access offline." - Mustafa, Student Innovator 14/15

Evernote

Store all your sources in Evernote, create on the go notes and access from anywhere!

"Evernote is a word processing app, similar to Pages on Macs or Microsoft Word. This app, like many, can be used on portable devices and therefore you can carry on at home with work that you started in lessons." - Connie, Student Innovator 14/15

Pinterest

Access thousands of resources, Pinterest is great to find new ideas. You can also display your work by creating your own boards.

"I liked this application a lot. It was a clear usable app, and had similar traits to a social networking app" - Rory, Student Innovator 14/15

RefME

RefME is a great app to help with referencing, scan the barcode and RefME will create the reference for you.

"I found this app very effective as it automatically produces references from books just by scanning the barcode on the back page. I found this app very useful especially when doing assignments for my course as I wouldn't have to search through everything and struggle to produce the reference on my own all." - Hayley, Student Innovator 14/15

App Recommendations from Departments

Learning Support

Dragon Dictation

Convert speech into text on your device! Great for quick notes and to help write up your assignment.

"It has a great setting which can 'detect end-of-speech', this detects when I finish talking and then processes my speech into text. It also links with my contacts and recognise names." - Liam, Student Innovator 15/16
